Gates County's most historic artifact is now on display at Museum of the AlbemarleDecember 18, 2009 GATES COUNTY NEWS -- The Gates County Quilt is now on display at the Museum of the Albemarle. The quilt, originally sewn in 1886, is considered Gates County's most historic artifact. Below the quilt is pictured below on display at the Museum's Gates County Day celebration on December 13, 2009.
The Museum of the Albemarle serves the thirteen counties located in northeastern section of North Carolina. Allowing visitors to explore the history of the oldest section of North Carolina, and by many considered the birthplace of English America. Additionally, Cynthia Nixon Mastro contributed to the quilt's restoration through the Museum's "adopt an artifact" program.
