Photography Exhibit in Chowan County

Shepard Pruden Memorial Library in Edenton will host the "Telling Our Stories" Photography Exhibit

GATES COUNTY NEWS -- Residents of Gates County will have a chance to see,"Telling Our Stories" Photography Exhibit that is coming to Chowan County! Shepard Pruden Memorial Library in Edenton will host the exhibit from June 12, 2009, through July 2, 2009. Additionally, this Friday, the Friends of the Library will host an opening reception from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. for this exceptional educational art experience, which has been captured by the state's best professional photographers. The Exhibit also includes some of the most historical photographs from the State Archives as well as the top winners of "Our State" magazine's 2008 photography contest. Overall, 50 images from the state's mountains to the coast that show different events and time periods will be on display.

Scenes from eastern North Carolina include Boy with beagle at Cape Hatteras by Tina Banner, an Our State magazine winner; and Children at terrapin race, a black and white 1939 photograph from Beaufort in the State Archives. Images from the professional photographers include scenes from the United States and abroad. Striking images of people, places and nature await viewers.

However, what have visitors said about this exhibit thus far? From Edgecombe County viewers wrote, "Great photography," "Wonderful," and "Thanks for showing this." In Henderson County they wrote, "This is an excellent tool to teach the public history and art," and "Love the photos, especially the older ones, the nature ones, and the tubas."

"Telling Our Stories" Photography Exhibit is organized by N.C. Department of Cultural Resources (NCDCR), which is dedicated to the promotion and protection of North Carolina's arts, history and culture. NCDCR utilized the State Library of North Carolina contacted public libraries to display the Exhibit. Therefore, the Photography Exhibit will be traveling throughout the rest of the year to eastern and western North Carolina public libraries for display.
