Touched by Patriotism

April 5, 2008

GATES COUNTY NEWS -- Last Monday evening, I had the opportunity to meet Senator Fred Smith! More than eighty citizens gathered at the Washington High School in Little Washington, North Carolina, to attend Senator Fred Smith's campaign rally in support of his candidacy for Governor 2008. A close friend and supporter of Fred, singer Lee Greenwood preformed patriotic songs such as, "God Bless the USA" written sometime back in 1982, when I just joined the Navy. My heart was overwhelmed. I remembered that time to this day, playing pool at a little bar across from the Naval Training Station in San Diego, CA. Man! I was young back then.

Greenwood is also the official spokesperson for Operation Never Forgotten (ONF), and travels extensively in Iraq and Kuwait entertaining and supporting our Troops deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Senator Smith rallied his supporters by explaining that North Carolina needs leadership that does not tolerate the deletion of email sent to public agencies, and is willing to address the issues concerning the average people. The Senator further said he was committed to using information collected from BBQ tour surveys to lay the groundwork for a plan to reform North Carolina government.

Everyone knows Fred Smith is unorthodox when it comes to publicity. Being a successful entrepreneur and multimillionaire, he could easily flood North Carolina mainstream media with campaign commercials. Instead, Fred utilizes grassroots organizations like us to send his message.

Anyway, before "We the People of Gates County join North Carolina" I just thought I would share that moment with you. As a matter of fact, I have a lot of fond memories of Gates County too. We should remenice together, watch some video, read some old material. Yeah, does that sounds like fun?
